Ontologies for Supply Chain Management

There are many stakeholders involved in supply chain management, and the supply chain itself is a complex, dynamic network that involves suppliers, manufactures, warehouses, retailers, and customers. Ontologies on the other hand are semantic primitives that specify a shared domain of knowledge. Having ontologies for supply chain management will facilitate knowledge sharing and communication among the various supply chain partners. In this paper, we present a methodology for constructing a general-purpose ontology for supply chain management along with the resulting ontology. This general-purpose supply chain management ontology can then be extended into various application areas including supply chain specification, supply chain knowledge management systems, various supply chain models and applications.
